Espresso machine maintenance is important if you want you machine to last and to function as intended. We covered how to care for your espresso machine in a previous post. In this post, a video will show exactly how to replace two essential parts for your Profitec Go.
The first part you should replace after several months of usage is the E61 group gasket. This is a plastic gasket inside the group head. Make sure to buy the red one sold by Cafelat. There are vendors online that sell this product, so you shouldn’t have a problem acquiring one.
The second part to replace is the shower screen. You can do this at anytime, but from personal experience the sooner the better. The reason is a much improved water distribution compared to the shower screen that originally came with the machine.
This results in better espresso shots. The replacement shower screen in the video is IMS precision competition shower screen. Similarly to the Red E61 group gasket, you should have no problem finding one online.
Before replacing these parts, make sure your espresso machine is unplugged for safety reasons. You’ll also need a 3mm hexagon allen key to remove the screw in the middle of the shower screen which is connected to the shower plate.
As for how often you should replace these parts will depend on usage, but considering that the E61 Cafelat group gasket is made of silicone, it should last you quite a while. Two indications of replacement are either leakage of water from the group head or portafilter or if it’s very difficult to place place the portafilter insider the group head.
